Moment of truth…I didn’t start my smoothie adventure with a protein powder. Here’s why…
In the early days of smoothie making, I had a heck of a time finding a protein powder that didn’t irritate the crap out of my gut (literally) or cause my face to break out in pimples.
There were – and still are – so many powders on the market with long lists of ingredients that didn’t meet my high standards and quite frankly, didn’t make me feel good when I tried them.
I remember the day I received a call from my good friend Jordan, who works for a prestigious, family-owned and run company that makes natural health products.
During the course of our conversation he began to describe this new grass-fed beef protein powder that the company recently launched. My ears perked up at the sound of these words because I’d never heard of such a thing, but I was definitely interested.
Jordan continued to read off the list of ingredients and at this point I had grown a tail and it was wagging enthusiastically!
Hear me out…High quality protein that is easily digested and absorbed by the body, with a short list of clean ingredients…Are you starting to feel my excitement?!
Well, if that wasn’t enough to sell me on this new protein powder, then finding out it was recommended by a big-time functional medicine doctor that I truly respected, definitely was.
Not only have natural health supplements like this one helped me to heal my gut and improve my health, but they have saved me LOTS of time and money.
This is how…
I can make myself a healthy, nutrient-dense meal with everything I need, including high quality protein, healthy fats and smart carbohydrates for roughly $5 (or maybe even less!)
How many nutrient-packed, high quality meals have you eaten that cost you only $5? If I had to guess, probably not many.
The best part is (that’s right, I’m not done) this almighty smoothie will only take 5 minutes to make!
Now that puts ShamWow to shame.
The protein powders I’m recommending for my 14-day smoothie challenge are:
PurePaleo Protein by Designs for Health (chocolate & vanilla flavour)
Collagen Peptides by Vital Proteins (unflavoured)
These protein powders contain NO: soy, dairy, eggs, gluten, grains, nuts, GMO ingredients, fillers, artificial flavours, colours, preservatives or sweeteners.
I have used both of these protein powders for many years now – my personal experience and results have been amazing (and my family, friends and clients feel the same about these powders).
Check out this article I wrote about 4 reasons why I use PurePaleo Protein.
PurePea Protein by Designs for Health (vanilla flavour)
Do you have a sensitive gut?
PurePaleo Protein and Collagen Peptides are gut-friendly protein powders that help to heal and support the gut. They contain high amounts of collagen which aids in gut lining repair.
Note for recipes:
You don’t need all above mentioned protein powders in order to follow my recipes.
The protein powder that you choose can be used in all the recipes. You may not get the exact flavour I have attempted to create, but it shouldn’t be too far off.
If you’d like to use a different protein powder, I have put together a quick checklist to help you source a high-quality powder. Check it out here.
